Meta Data

Metatags are used to store information intended for browsers and search engines. For example, S.E. refer to metatags to receive the website description, keywords and other data.

Among all the metatags we would like to point out two, they are description and keywords. Some webmasters added such keywords in the referring chapter which would have nothing in common with the website topic. Though they were a success among some search engine visitors. Time passed and the search engines learned to cope with it. Now they check whether the content of the webpage corresponds to the specified keywords.

Here are some basic rules in metatag usage:

- do not enter keywords that are not on your webpages;

- do not repeat the keywords;

- use the metatags in accordance with their direct purpose;

- make sure that the description and the keyword lists differ on each page in accordance with the webpage content.

description

The majority metatag, it show the description field content when displaying search results.

keywords

This metatag was intended to describe the keywords on the page. But it is discredited now due to the attempts of those who would like to reach the top spots in the search engines by all means. That is why lots of search engines skip this parameter. Keywords can be separated by a comma or a "Space" key.

Website creators believe that correctly written metatags would allow them to reach the top spots on the search engine servers. Truth be told - this is wrong. You cannot reach the heights by using metatags only. Besides, incorrect metatags can lower the rating of your website.
